日曜日なので、穏やかな内容を書いています。

 

インスタグラムの海外の暮し映像や写真を見ると、全く住環境の造りや価値観が違うので、参考になることばかりです。

10月に入るなり、ハロウィンのお菓子の提案や飾り付け例が沢山出ており、海外はさすが本場だなと思います。

 

ハロウィンの飾り付けは、ずっとやってみたかったのですが、何をどう飾るのかもよく分からず、やってみたいな、とぼんやり思い続けていたので、世界中のハロウィンの日常を参考に、今年は何とかやってみました。

 

世界と時差ゼロの情報がインターネットで手に入るので、こういう時はとても便利です。

そういえば、80年代や90年代のLIFE STYLE系で取材される方々は、海外で暮していた事があったり、日本に戻ってもインテリアに外国雑誌を参考にしていると、インタビューで答えていましたよ。

私の場合は、Temuで安価に外国の雑貨が手に入るので、プラスティック製の褪せた小さな南瓜のオブジェを、こっそり玄関先に積み重ねたり、何となくの知り合いのようで居て、そうでないようでも居るご近所という景色に向かい、素敵な名前を持つ庭に、「ハロウィンですね」と囁やかな合図を造って贈っています。

 

季節のデコレイトを庭や玄関、窓に飾るのは、日本ではお正月とお盆とクリスマスくらいだったように記憶しています。

それがこの頃ではハロウィンの飾りも加わって、一年の歳事記に瑞々しい旬が加わって楽しいです。

特に私は音で語らない合図が好きなので、ハロウィンの飾り付けをしながら、こういうことを一人でわいわいやるのって楽しいな、と暮しの張りに気付き、しみじみ明るく穏やかな温かさに包まれました。

この、気づくかな？　と街や町にイタズラを仕掛けるやり方が、一人やひと部屋単位で豊かさを招くのだと思います。

 

飾り付けをしていると、不慣れなハロウィンを順々に部屋へ取り込んでいっているようで、そののんびりしたリズムが私達にぴったりでした。

 

ちなみに南瓜の小さな置き物は、Temuで6個で910円です。

Temuは海外の雑貨が沢山あるので、こんなのもあるんだ？　と驚いたり、今年は余りお金が掛けられないからこっちは来年やろうと、意外にも未来の予定が出来て、時間が続いていく実感に明るい気持ちになります。

 

2025年のハロウィンに対する見解ですが。 

基本、ほのぼのとしたジョークの包装紙の中に、日々と収穫の感謝を静かに祝うようです。

 

なぜクリスマスをするの？　どうしてハロウィンにそんなに拘るのか？　と聞かれ続けて長いですが、私の場合は、歳時を建てているのかもしれません。 

 

日常に伝わっている和洋問わない祝祭の数々は、可視出来ない飾りを建てて、祝祭を薫らせ、きっと自分と他者の現実に知らせているのでしょうね。

日々の静かの中に見えない催事を構築し、終わると片付ける。

残り香で、今回も良かったと思う。

その理由は今でも分かりません。

 

家族単位で楽しむ行事って、海外の個人単位社会では、どのようにしているんでしょう？

おそらく特に気負わず、祝祭を香らせていた筈なんですよね。

 

私は、薫りの行動では、梔子（くちなし）の香りが一番好きです。名前も気に入っています。

梔子は、「姿は無いのに良い匂い」と信じられていますが、とても美しい外見を持っています。

日本では街路樹でもお馴染みで、湿度の高い暑い夜に気付く、絹の重さを持った一重や八重の白いあの花です。

この頃はガーデニアという名前でもお馴染みのようですね。

昨日ネットで調べたら、梔子の実は茎に成っている状態では、食べると箒に乗って空を勢い良く飛びそうで、魔法植物のようでした。

これを乾かすと、年末、日本のスーパーに並ぶ、金時作りに不可欠な「クチナシの実」となります。 

 

私の住む街ではひっそりと、賑々しくとも、ハロウィンの準備が世界を染めていっています。

Since it's Sunday, I'm writing something lighthearted.

When I see videos and photos of daily life overseas on Instagram, the completely different living environments and values make everything so inspiring.

 

As soon as October began, tons of Halloween candy ideas and decoration examples started popping up, reminding me that overseas is truly the home of Halloween.

 

I've always wanted to try Halloween decorations, but I never really knew what to do or how to do it. I just kept vaguely thinking, “I'd like to try it someday.” So, using everyday Halloween scenes from around the world as inspiration, I finally managed to do it this year.

 

Having instant access to global information online is incredibly convenient for times like this.

 

Come to think of it, people featured in lifestyle magazines back in the 80s and 90s often mentioned in interviews that they had lived overseas, or even after returning to Japan, they referenced foreign magazines for their interior design.

In my case, since I can get inexpensive foreign knickknacks on Temu, I secretly stack faded little plastic pumpkin ornaments by my front door. Facing the neighborhood scene—where people feel like acquaintances yet aren't quite—I create a whispering signal for the beautifully named garden: “It's Halloween, isn't it?”

I recall that in Japan, seasonal decorations for gardens, entrances, and windows were limited to New Year's, Obon, and Christmas.

Nowadays, Halloween decorations have joined the mix, adding a fresh, seasonal touch to the annual calendar of events, which is delightful.

I especially love non-verbal cues, so while decorating for Halloween, I realized how much fun it is to cheerfully do these things alone. I was enveloped in a deeply bright, gentle warmth.

This way of playfully decorating towns and neighborhoods, wondering “Will anyone notice?”, I think invites richness on an individual or room-by-room scale.

As I decorated, it felt like gradually bringing the unfamiliar Halloween spirit into each room, and that leisurely rhythm suited us perfectly.

By the way, the little pumpkin figurines were 910 yen for six at Temu.

Temu has so many international goods that I'm surprised to find things like this. Since I can't spend much this year, I'll save that for next year—unexpectedly, future plans form, and the tangible sense of time continuing ahead lifts my spirits.

Regarding my perspective on Halloween 2025.

Fundamentally, it seems like quietly celebrating daily life and the harvest within the wrapping paper of gentle jokes.

People keep asking me, “Why do you celebrate Christmas? Why are you so fixated on Halloween?” For me, perhaps it's about building seasonal rituals.

The many festivals, Japanese or Western, woven into daily life, erect invisible decorations, let the spirit of celebration permeate, and surely make both my own and others' realities aware of it.

We construct invisible events within daily stillness, then dismantle them when finished.

The lingering scent makes me think, “It was good again this time.”

I still don't know why.

How do they handle family-based celebrations in individualistic societies overseas?

Probably without much fuss, just letting the festive scent linger.

Among scented actions, I love the fragrance of gardenia most. I also like its name.

Gardenia is believed to be “a good scent without a visible form,” yet it possesses a very beautiful appearance.

In Japan, it's familiar as a street tree, its single or double white flowers, heavy as silk, noticed on humid, hot nights.

These days, it seems equally familiar by the name “gardenia.”

Yesterday I looked it up online and found that when gardenia berries are still on the stem, eating them feels like you might take flight on a broomstick—they seem like magical plants.

Once dried, they become the “gardenia berries” essential for making kintoki sweets, which line Japanese supermarket shelves at year's end.

 

In my town, Halloween preparations are quietly, yet vibrantly, coloring the world.
