NOTE
NOTE 2

Since it’s Sunday, I’m writing something gentle.
Yesterday was October 31st—Halloween—but actually, Halloween was on Saturday.
I seem to recall writing about this before, but Yumi Matsutoya’s “SATURDAY NIGHT ZOMBIES” is one of my favorite songs, so I quietly got into the spirit and went out last night to check out the Halloween festivities in my town.
I hadn’t planned on going into any shops, so I just walked around a bit, mainly along Nishi-dori.

I hadn’t planned on going into any shops, so I just walked around a bit, mainly along Nishi-dori.
The international visitors staying at FUK Blanche City had made plans to enjoy Halloween night in my town, and they seemed to be having a wonderful time.
I used to think, “I’d love to visit a stateless town—a place where Japan meets the outside world, a place that’s in Japan but not quite Japan, a place I’ve visited in my dreams.”
I used to think, “I’d love to visit a stateless town—a place where Japan meets the outside world, a place that’s in Japan but not quite Japan, a place I’ve visited in my dreams.”
I’m truly happy that this modest wish came true without me even realizing it.
That town is always one I visit in my dreams, or sometimes I’ll realize while drinking coffee a little while after waking up, “Oh, right—I went to that beautiful town again, even though I’ve never actually been there.”
When I told Professor O. about this, he asked, “Is it the room that appears in that book by Banana Yoshimoto?”

When I told Professor O. about this, he asked, “Is it the room that appears in that book by Banana Yoshimoto?”
So I replied, “Yes, that’s exactly it!” and was delighted that, for the first time in my life, I’d been able to convey that image clearly.
I mentioned this to Professor O. later, explaining that the town isn’t actually in Okinawa—it’s the town Pinky sees in her dream near the end of the book.
What’s more, the town I see is the one viewed and inhabited by the owners of the room Pinky looks up at.
So, the town Pinky walks through in her dream only partially matches mine; it’s actually the town the character Pinky walks through in her dream near the end of the book *Nankuru Nai*.
That pasta is delicious. I tried it. It’s really good!
Now, getting back to Halloween 2026, all the costumes were incredibly elaborate. Among them was someone (?) dressed as a character from the movie *Squid Game* with a triangle on their face, as well as Kisuke Urahara, a character from the manga *BLEACH*, Kisuke Urahara from the manga “BLEACH,” and Kyojuro Rengoku, the Flame Pillars from the manga “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba,” were chatting.

I thought, “Maybe I should ask these two to take a photo with me?”
But as I walked away, still undecided, Mr. Rengoku—in true Rengoku fashion—turned around and gave me a “Hey!” kind of wave. I just gave a quick nod and kept walking.
There were also some KAWAII, stylish, and somewhat demure Gothic Lolita girls in miniskirts.
It was wonderful how they stayed true to their character’s world.
Then there were people wearing short, drop-style white dress skirts—I was watching in awe—while right next to me, a group of “Mummy Men” were rewrapping each other’s bandages and getting ready to head home.
People from overseas were also dressed in authentic, overseas-style costumes, having a lively and fun time.
Actually, the reason Halloween in Japan—where I live—is treated with caution isn’t because of police crackdowns. It’s because, even though the gals having fun in Shibuya had created their own wonderful festival and the Shibuya Ward was joining in the fun, some people abused it by causing riot-like disturbances, smashing store signs no matter how many times they were told not to, and littering.
So, it’s not the police’s fault, you know?
Since last year, city officials have been walking behind the crowds, urging people to “Pick up trash the moment it falls.” This year, there were even people in Halloween costumes walking around town while picking up trash.
I really like this kind of lighthearted, playful spirit, so I’m already looking forward to next year’s Halloween.

Note
Even if you haven’t planned to dress up for Halloween until the day of the event, I think there are often times when you suddenly feel like, “I want to dress up!”
Last night, I saw some international visitors wearing matching fairy wings attached to the backs of their clothes.
How about selling fairy wings, angel wings, and bat wings at hotels, train stations, airports, and convenience stores—starting a week in advance? These could be large angel wings or small black wings that you simply drape over both shoulders. They could be designed to sit in the center of the back—looking from the front, they’d resemble a choker, but when viewed from the back, they’d rest in the center of the back—suspended by transparent fishing line and secured only at the sides with safety pins.
Also, since visitors cannot stay until the next non-combustible trash collection day, I think it would make things run much more smoothly if you created a guide explaining where to dispose of them before returning home.

Note 2
I’m sharing this information since someone told me about it.
Apparently, when using the beautiful, well-made, flat little artificial flowers that come with stationery sets as part of a costume—attaching them to your hair, or on top of your makeup to your face, shoulders, arms, or the backs of your hands—you should use false eyelash glue.
The product I have is called “Dolly Wink EYELASH FIX HARD TYPE,” a hard-type adhesive specifically designed for false eyelashes.
It’s a false eyelash adhesive made by KOJI, and since it’s waterproof, I think it’ll last just fine for a night of cosplay.
Indeed, even with all that blinking and a little sweat, they stay perfectly fluffy until the end of the concert.
For this specialized adhesive, you’re supposed to apply it to the false lashes first, wait until the white glue turns clear, and then attach them to your face after you’ve finished your makeup.
If you don’t do this, you might run into problems when removing them later, so if you’re thinking, “Maybe I’ll try this next year?” please be sure to use it safely.
